"This camp has changed my son greatly. He's willing to go to any length to do what he has to do to be a responsible individual. I am very proud of him! Thank you from the depths of my heart."
"This past year since going to your camp I have used the values and lessons you taught me. By using these, I lettered in wrestling, have become a better friend to my parents, become more responsible and have excelled in art. All of this because your camp taught me perseverance, courage, courtesy, manners, chores and hard work"
"I can't begin to tell you what an impression my talk with the boys made on me. The fact that you give these kids who have so little such a great experience. I feel greatly moved."
At long last, plans for our new kitchen are turning into reality. We have been in the planning stages of the replacement of our 40+ year old kitchen for several years. As usual with Pyles Camp we are very grateful to the numerous individuals, companies and foundations that have contributed time, services and funds to make this important change. While we do not have the room to thank every person and company, we are very grateful to the Addington Partnership for providing the architectural services at no cost. Bob Morton of Morton Contruction and Greg Fowler of Fowler and Brown donated equipment and manpower for the demolition. Occidental Oil and Gas donated electrical equipment.
A very special thank you is reserved for the Fred L. Hartley Foundation for providing the majority of the funding for this venture. The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation and the Weingart Foundation also contributed substantial funds.
As we watched the demolition of the old kitchen, we experienced a mixture of sadness and excitement. Sadness at seeing the removal of an integral and historical part of Pyles Camp. A place where twenty-one thousand boys have been lovingly fed out of these cramped quarters by Nana and others, where countless songs have been sung and daily announcements given. However there was also excitement and anticipation of a great new building soon to be filled with memories of its own.
